Google not the only game in town.

Searching == Googling, right? It doesn't have to be, nor should it always be. There are other search engines that have emerged over the last few years that may actually do a better job than Google.

Blinkz allows users to scan millions of hours of video clips and files. If you are looking for political speeches this is the place to go. http://www.blinkx.com/
The interactive news window on their homepage would make a great jumping off point for current events.
and they have a kids section: http://www.blinkx.com/topics/kids

If you are more visual in your approach, you may wish to try Kartoo. http://www.kartoo.com/
It is very intuitive for younger students with links to available videos, images and a TOC on the left.
I blogged another tool last month, SearchLearnShare which was the fastest seach engine I've encountered. http://edtechlife.com/sls/
It deserves another mention here - you can see my experiment at the previous post.

Clusty at http://clusty.com/ is another engine that "clusters" your search results. It may be more intuitive for the general thinker. Reviewed previously.

Finally another visual tool is SearchMe http://www.searchme.com/ which I also reviewed.Technorati Tags: , , , , ,
