What to Do, What to Do?

Have students dig for the roots of Halloween. Use Answers.com for their Halloween topic as a starting point to learn more about Samhain, Pomona and Feralia.

Then begin a blog or wiki to collaborate on this festival. Connect with students in other countries and find what they do to celebrate this type of holiday.

October 25th marks the birthday of Pablo Picasso. Perhaps one of the best known modern artists, Picasso enjoyed what few other artists did in his lifetime: fame. Eschewing the norms of art like perspective, Picasso emphasized two-dimensional flat surfaces and geometric shapes.

Introduce students to Cubism and Picasso's work. What makes it stand out from other art they've seen? Have them mimic his work in a masterpiece of their own.
