October 25^th marks the birthday of Pablo Picasso. Perhaps one of the best known modern artists, Picasso enjoyed what few other artists did in his lifetime: fame. Eschewing the norms of art like perspective, Picasso emphasized two-dimensional flat surfaces and geometric shapes.

Introduce students to Cubism and Picasso's work. What makes it stand out from other art they've seen? Have them mimic his work in a masterpiece of their own.
