United Nations Day commemorates the founding of the United Nations (UN) on October 24, 1945. Part of its creed is to “save succeeding generations from the scourge of war—to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights—to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedoms.” The UN continues to play a significant role in the world, providing a forum for all leaders of the world to come and state their positions and to engage in dialogue.
